Many children face challenges when learning reading, writing, spelling, and math, for all kinds of reasons.
Common causes include; Dyslexia, (reading and spelling), Dyscalculia, (math), Dysgraphia, (writing), and ADHD.
Many of these kids score very high in intelligence, only adding to their sense of frustration as they see other kids catching on faster than they do, often leading to behaviour issues and lower self esteem.
Learning challenges, such as Dyslexia, alter the brain's ability to receive, percieve and process information, impeding the student's ability to keep up in a classroom with as many as 30 kids, all following a non-stop, fast moving Provincial Curriculum that waits for no one.
Without the extra help that they need, this can mean that they get progressively more and more behind their peers, often negatively effecting their future learning success as they lack more and more of the basic fundamentals.
The answer for many of these kids is effective, one-on-one learning with an experienced, professional instructor trained in a therapuetic approach to learning known as The Orton-Gillingham, or OG Method. A powerful learning tool of exceptional breadth, depth and flexibility.
Orton-Gillingham, or OG, was created 70 years ago by Samuel Orton, a neuropsychiatrist, and his wife Anna Gillingham, a gifted educator and psychologist. It is most often used as a one-on-one teacher-student instructional model.
It has a proven track record of success teaching kids to crack-the-code behind mastering reading, writing, spelling and math.
Explicit, systematic instruction in the written code of the English language.
1-1 interaction between tutor and student maximizes learning every session.
A success oriented, sequential, step-by-step, proven approach to learning.
OG teaches students to become self-correcting, independent learners.
Hi, I'm Andrea Sorokin and I've been helping kids overcome learning challenges for 15 years, and I love it!
I am an experience Therapeutic OG Tutor certified by the Canadian Academy of Therapeutic Tutors, (CATT), to use the Orton-Gillingham multisensory approach to teaching children to crack-the-code and master reading, writing, spelling and math.
I understand and empathize with children frustrated by learning challenges such as Dyslexia and ADHD. I know first hand the burden it can place on their self-esteem and the long lasting effects it can have. I also know that many of these kids are highly intelligent, creative, out-of-the-box thinkers with huge potential and that that many can benefit from the kind of one-on-one learning assistance I provide based on the OG method.
I know it because I have seen it happen right before my eyes both as a Therapuetic OG Tutor, as well as an Educational Assistant within the public schools for 13 years.
Our daughter has worked with Andrea for about a year and we have seen great progress in her school performance. Andrea is kind, patient and truly cares about her students.
We will miss working with her and wouldn't hesitate to recommend her as an Orton Gillingham tutor.
Jennifer and Adrian
For the last two years, since his ADHD diagnosis, our now 9 year old son has been tutored in the Orton Gillingham approach under the guidance and instruction of Andrea.
Her passion, knowledge and warmth have resulted in significant gains for our son, not only on an academic level, but also on social and emotional development as we can see his confidence
in himself and his abilities grow and through that his sense of independence.
With her support and influence, there has been a marked improvement in his grades and his overall behaviour, which not only we have noticed, but we have also received very positive feedback from his teachers.
Andrea is always keen to communicate with us and is interested in our son as a person. I cannot thank her enough for her insight and dedication. It has changed his life and ours for the better.

My daughter came to be taught by Andrea approximately one year ago. She was very shy and having great difficulty with reading and writing. Andrea worked with her steadily, twice a week. A year later she is much improved in her reading and her confidence about her ability to read.
Andrea developed a strong rapport with her which allowed her to pick up the information more readily. She is now steadily improving with her reading largely due to Andrea’s work with her.
